The Lobelia tupa belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in central Chile, from Valparaiso Region to Los Lagos Region. It grows in dry forests, grasslands, and roadsides, reaching heights of 50 to 300 cm. It extends several hollow stems from its base. The leaves are elliptic, grayish-green, covered in fine felt-like hairs, and grow 10 to 15 cm long. From July to September, it blooms with red flowers in large racemes at the stem tips. The corolla is tubular and bilabiate.
