The fernleaf biscuitroot (Lomatium dissectum) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is native to much of western North America. This herb grows on open, rocky slopes and dry meadows, and it can reach up to 1.4 m in height. The leaves are mostly attached near the base, spreading with petioles up to 30 cm long and large blades divided into many small, narrow segments. The many small yellow or reddish flowers bloom in compound umbels in summer.
