The Box-leaved honeysuckle (Lonicera pileata ) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small evergreen or semi-evergreen tree that is distributed in central and southwestern China. It grows on mountain slopes, in sparse forests, and near water, and is about 1 m tall. The leaves are ovate to elliptic, 1 to 3 cm long, shiny, entire, and opposite. It produces small yellowish-white flowers in spring. The flowers are tubular and fragrant. The fruit is a translucent, blackish purple berry. The fruit is mildly toxic. In Chinese, it is called "蕊帽忍冬" (rui mao ren dong).
