中国南部から東南アジアが原産です。葉はビロード状の赤紫色または赤褐緑色で、葉脈の上に淡紅色やホワイトピンクの模様があります。このことから和名では「ホンコンしゅすらん（香港繻子蘭）」、英名では「ジュエルオーキッド」と呼ばれています。春に花茎を出して、白い小さな花をたくさん咲かせます。

ラン科ルディシア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Ludisia discolor。英名は Jewel orchid。

The Jewel orchid (Ludisia discolor) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to southern China and Southeast Asia. The leaves are velvety reddish-purple or reddish-brown green with pale rose pink or whitish-pink patches on the veins. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom many white small flowers in spring.
