北アメリカの西部、カナダのブリティッシュコロンビア州からサスカチュワン州、それにアメリカのカリフォルニア州からニューメキシコ州に分布しています。潅木のある草原や放棄地、道ばたなどに生え、高さは５０〜６０センチになります。茎は直立して広がり、くも毛に被われています。葉には毛が多く、多くの裂片に、複雑に分裂しています。その先端は、渦巻いたり捻れたりしています。初夏に頭花を咲かせます。頭花には、腺毛があり、いくつかの白色またはピンク色がかった筒状花が平らかに並び、葯が突き出ます。

The Plumas lupine (Lupinus onustus) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the states of California and Oregon in the United States. This herb grows in mountain forests and grasslands, and it can reach 20-30 cm in height. The leaves are palmately compound with 5-9 leaflets. The partly or entirely purple, papilionacenous flowers bloom in the stout inflorescence from April to September.
