アメリカの東部から東南部に分布しています。高さは６０〜９０センチほどになります。葉は卵形で先端が尖り、鋭い鋸歯があります。７月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に総状花序をだし、淡い藤紫色の花を咲かせます。白花もあるそうです。属名や英名は、花のかたちが「カメ」の頭に似ていることに因みます。

ゴマノハグサ科ジャコウソウモドキ属の多年草で、学名は Chelone lyonii。英名は Pink turtlehead。

The pink turtlehead (Chelone lyonii) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the eastern part to the southeastern part of the United States. This herb grows up to 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are ovate, pointed and have sharp serrations. The racemes are borne on the shoot apex and bloom pale royal blue flowers from July to October. There are also white flowers. The genus name and common name are derived from the fact that the shape of the flower resembles the head of a "turtle".
