ヨーロッパからアジアに分布しています。アメリカでは帰化が広がり、導入規制を行っている州もあります。「えぞみそはぎ（Lythrum salicaria）」によく似ていますが、より小さいことが特徴です。高さは９０〜１２０センチになり、夏の終わりから初秋にピンク色の花を咲かせます。

ミソハギ科ミソハギ属の多年草で、学名は Lythrum virgatum。英名は European wand loosestrife。

The European wand loosestrife (Lythrum virgatum) belongs to Lythraceae (the Loosestrife family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Europe to Asia. Naturalization has spread in the United States, and some states regulate introduction. It closely resembles "Purple loosestrife" (Lythrum salicaria), but it is characterized by smaller size. It grows up to a height of 90-120 cm, and the pink flowers will bloom early fall from the end of summer.
