The Rainbow eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. This tree grows in tropical rainforests, and reaches a height of 60-75 m with the trunk up to 2.4 m in diameter. The bark is smooth, orange-tinted, and sheds in strips, revealing streaks of pale green, red, orange, gray, and purplish brown. The leaves are ovate, arranged in opposite pairs on a short petiole. The small white flowers bloom on umbels at various times during the year depending on locality. The fruit is a woody, brown, hemispherical capsule about 3-5 mm long. This tree is grown widely around the world in tree plantations, mainly for pulpwood used in making white paper.
