	南アメリカの熱帯地域が原産です。わが国へは江戸時代の初めに渡来しました。現在ではおもに千葉県や茨城県、神奈川県などで栽培されています。高さは２０～５０センチになります。６月から９月ごろ、黄色い蝶形花を咲かせます。花後、子房の先端が伸びて地中に入り、そこで結実します。茎が立ち上がる立性種と、茎が横に這うほふく性種、その中間の半立性種があります。写真中９～中１１は、晩秋から初冬の風物詩、乾燥のため野積みされた「らっかせい」の「ぼっち（野ぼっち）」。写真中２４・下の品種は、「おおまさり」、中２５は、「ナカテユタカ」。
	マメ科ラッカセイ属の一年草で、学名は Arachis hypogaea。英名は Peanut。
	The Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) belongs Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an annual herb that is native to tropical South America. This herb was introduced into Japan in the early Edo Era (1603-1868). Now a days, it is mainly cultivated in Chiba, Ibaraki and Kanagawa prefecture of Japan. It can reach 20-50 cm in height. The yellow papilionaceous flowers come in June to September. Following bloom, the tip of ovary elongates downward and bearing under ground. There are 3 types of growing, such as bush-type, hemibush-type and creeping-type.
