「いぐさ（藺草）」の突然変異種で、現在では園芸品種として流通しています。高さは４０センチくらいで、細い茎がきれいな螺旋を描きます。葉は退化して、茎の下部に葉鞘状になっています。花は褐色で小さく、あまり目立ちません。

イグサ科イグサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Juncus effusus var. decipiens cv. Spiralis。英名は Corkscrew rush。

The corkscrew rush (Juncus effusus var. decipiens cv. Spiralis) belongs to Juncaceae (the Rush family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is a mutant of "rush" and is now distributed as a cultivar. The height is about 40 cm, and the thin stems draw a beautiful spiral. The leaves are degenerated and petiole-shaped at the bottom of the stem. The flowers are brown and small and not very noticeable.
