The "Rebun-iwa-renge" (Orostachys furusei) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed in Hokkaido, Rebun Island, and the Shiretoko Mountains in Japan. It grows on coastal rocks and reaches a height of 10 to 15 cm. The leaves are fleshy, obovate to elliptic, and form rosettes, resembling lotus flowers. From August to November, it extends its scapes and produces racemes of white flowers. After flowering, the plant dies, but short stolons form and produce small plants.
