The "Rebun-hana-shinobu" (Polemonium caeruleum ssp. laxiflorum f. insulare) belongs to Polemoniaceae (the Phlox family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Rebun Island in Hokkaido. It is one variety of "Karafuto-hana-shinobu", growing in sunny grasslands and reaching a height of about 40 cm. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound leaves with 8 to 12 pairs of leaflets. From June to July, it extends a scape and blooms with pale blue-purple flowers. It is characterized by compact, short inflorescences and densely clustered flowers.
