ゴマノハグサ科シオガマギク属の多年草で、学名は Pedicularis chamissonis var. rebunensis。英名はありません。
The "Rebun-shiogama" (Pedicularis chamissonis var. rebunensis) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Rebun Island in Hokkaido, Japan. It grows on sunny slopes and reaches a height of 20 to 60 cm. This type is particularly tall and has larger leaves than the "Kita-yotsuba-shiogama". The leaves of the "Kita-yotsuba-shiogama" usually grow in whorls of four, but this species has whorls of five to six leaves. From June to July, more than ten whorls of light purple flowers bloom at the top of the stem. The corolla is dimorphic, with a long, downward-pointing upper lip that is pointed like a beak. The genus "Shiogama-giku" is called a "hemiparasitic plant" because it parasitizes the roots of plants in the Poaceae and Cyperaceae families to obtain nutrients.
Additionally, the origin of the name "shiogama" makes sense when considering that "not only the flowers but also the leaves are beautiful (even on the beach). What is beautiful on the beach is Shiogama".
