The Mistletoe cactus (Rhipsalis cassutha) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a reed cuctus that is found in tropical and subtropical America, tropical Africa and Madagascar. It is usually found growing on the trunks and branches of large trees, and can hang down for a length of between 1 and 9 m. The branches are weak, pale green and cylindrical, and sometimes have aerial roots, with a diameter of around 3 mm. From winter to spring, small cream-colored flowers bloom along the stems. The fruit is a white or pink spherical berry. In horticulture, it is called "Ito-ashi" (thread reeds).
