ブラジルの南東部が原産です。乾季のある熱帯バイオームに生え、樹木などに着生します。細長い円筒形の茎は最初は直立し、後に垂れ下がります。また茎には節があり、各節の後に分枝することがあります。若い茎には、灰色から白色をした短い針状の棘があります。細い茎の先端に芳香のある白い花を咲かせます。花の直径は２．５〜４センチです。花後、針状の棘に被われた赤紫色の球形の果実をつけます。流通上は「あさのしも（朝の霜）」と呼ばれます。

サボテン科リプサリス属の柱サボテンで、学名は Rhipsalis pilocarpa (syn. Erythrorhipsalis pilocarpa)。英名は Hairy-fruited wickerware cactus。

The Hairy-fruited wickerware cactus (Rhipsalis pilocarpa) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a treelike cuctus that is native to southeastern Brazil. It grows in tropical biomes with a dry season, often epiphytic on trees. The slender cylindrical stems are initially erect but later droop. The stems have nodes, and branches may form after each node. Young stems have short, needle-like spines that are gray to white in color. Fragrant white flowers bloom at the tips of the slender stems. The flowers have a diameter of 2.5 to 4 cm. After flowering, it produces reddish-purple spherical fruits covered in needle-like spines. Horticulturally, it is called "朝の霜" (Asano-shimo) in Japan.
