The Rhododendron cuneatum belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from southwestern Sichuan to northwestern Yunnan in central and southern China. This shrub grows in pine forests, oak forests, shrub belts, and rocky gravel on slopes at an altitude of 2700 to 4200 m, and can reach a height of 1 to 2 m. The leaves are broad-elliptic to oblong lanceolate, and the back is covered with brown to dark brown scales. From April to June, 1 to 6 flowers come on the tip of the branch. The corolla is dark purple to purplish red, but there are also white flowers.
