中国、雲南省の南東部が原産です。標高２０００〜２４５０メートルの常緑樹林に生え、高さは１５メートルほどになります。葉は卵状楕円形で長い葉柄があり、革質で濃緑色をしています。３月から５月ごろ、７〜９個の雄しべのある濃赤色の花を咲かせます。中国語では「小脉紅花荷（xiao mai hong hua he）」と呼ばれます。

マンサク科ロードレイア属の常緑高木で、学名は Rhodoleia henryi。英名はありません。

The Rhodoleia henryi belongs to Hamamelidaceae (the Witch hazel family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to southeast Yunnan in China. This tree grows in the evergreen forests at 2000-2450 m elevation and can reach about 15 m in height. Leaves are ovate-elliptic, leathery and dark green with long petioles. Dark red flowers with 7-9 stamens come in March to May. It is called "小脉紅花荷" (xiao mai hong hua he) in Chinese. The photo is a cultivar 'Red Funnel'.
