ヒマラヤ周辺、中国の雲南省や四川省の南西部に分布しています。標高２４００〜４８００メートルの雑木林に生え、高さは２５〜１００センチになります。葉は長楕円形から卵形で、裏面は黄色い鱗片に被われます。春に、藤色から明るいピンク色、まれに白色の花を咲かせます。

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Rhododendron hippophaeoides。英名はありません。

The Rhododendron hippophaeoides belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed around the Himalayas and in the southwestern part of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China. This shrub grows in thickets at an altitude of 2400-4800 m and can reach 25-100 cm in height. The leaves are oblong to ovate and the back is covered with yellow scales. In spring, it blooms mauve to bright pink and rarely white flowers.
