The Rhododendron impeditum belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from southwestern Sichuan to northwestern Yunnan in central and southern China. This shrub grows on shrub belts, grasslands, and open slopes at an altitude of 2500-4600 m, and is about 80 cm high. The stem is well-branched and the leaves are ovate, elliptic to oblong. The surface of the leaf is dark green, and the back is pale grayish green with scales. From May to June, 3-4 flowers come together. Flower colors range from purple to mauve to purplish red. It has 10 to 11 stamens.
