中国の中南部、四川省から雲南省に分布しています。標高２０００〜３４００メートルの林縁や茂みに生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。葉は楕円形から長楕円形、倒披針形で葉柄があります。枝先から短い総状花序をだし、薄紫色から白色または濃赤紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠の内側には緑色がかった褐色または紫色の斑紋があります。

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rhododendron rigidum。英名はありません。

|
The Rhododendron rigidum belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from Sichuan to Yunnan in central and southern China. This tree grows on forest edges and bushes at an altitude of 2000 to 3400 m, and can reach a height of 1 to 2 m. The leaves are elliptic to oblong, oblanceolate and have petioles. Short racemes are borne on the tips of the branches and bloom from lilac to white or deep reddish purple. There are greenish brown or purple mottles on the inside of the corolla.
