The Rhododendron williamsianum belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in central and southern China, from western Guizhou to northeastern Yunnan, southwestern Sichuan, and southeastern Tibet. This shrub grows in open forests, slopes, and rocky gravel at an altitude of 1800 to 2800 m, and can reach a height of 1 to 2 m. The branches are thin and the leaves are broad-ovate to almost round and leathery. The front side is dark green and the back side is grayish white. From April to May, umbels that are close to racemes are borne on the tips of the branches and bloom reddish white flowers.
