The Alpine juniper (Juniperus communis var. saxatilis) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to Chubu district of Hanshu and Hokkaido in Japan, and aroud the circumpolar region. This tree grows in montane to alpine areas, spreads to matlike and can reach 0.5-1 m in height. The leaves are linear-oblong and arched with acute to obtuse tips. The glaucous stomatal bands are on adaxilal surfaces. The flowers come from May to June and the seeds ripen in October.
