オーストラリアの東部、クイーンズランド州からニューサウスウェールズ州に分布しています。海岸地帯に生え、よく分枝して高さは２〜５メートルになります。葉は長さ１０〜１５ミリの線形で、縁は強く反り返ります。現在ではオーストラリアやアメリカで栽培されています。冬の終わりから春にかけて、枝先に散房花序をだし、白色から淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。花もちが長くてブーケや生け花にされますが、ドライフラワーにも使われます。名前は、米粒のような小さな花を密集して咲かせることから。

キク科オゾタムヌス属の常緑小低木で、学名は Ozothamnus diosmifolius。英名は Rice flower、White dogwood。

The rice flower (Ozothamnus diosmifolius) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from Queensland to New South Wales in eastern Australia. This shrub grows on the coast and is well-branched to a height of 2-5 m. The leaves are linear with a length of 10 to 15 mm, and the edges are strongly curled. It is now cultivated in Australia and the United States. From the end of winter to spring, the inflorescences are borne on the tips of the branches and bloom white to pale pink flowers. It has a long flower life and is used as a bouquet or flower arrangement, but it is also used for dried flowers. The name comes from the fact that small flowers such as rice grains are densely bloomed.
