リンドウ科リンドウ属の多年草で、学名は Gentiana scabra var. buergeri。英名はありません。
"Rindou" (Gentiana scabra var. buergeri) belongs to Gentianaceae (the Gentian family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed southward from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu, and the Okinawa islands in Japan. This herb grows in hills and mountains and can reach 20-80 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate and opposite with fine toothed edges. The bluish-purple bell-shaped flowers bloom on the stem apices and upper axils in September to October. The flowers open in daylight and close in shade. The collora has brownish-red mottles on the inside. The dried rootstocks and roots are used as a herbal medicine for stomachic. The Japanese name is because it is very bitter like bile. The terrible bitterness is likened to "like a dragon."
