The Rodgersia pinnata belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in China. This herb grows in forests, forest margins and alpine meadows, and it can reach 60-120 cm in height. The leaves are up to 90cm long and are pinnate compound, with 2-4 leaflets. The leaflets are oblanceolate, ribbed and up to 20 cm long. The small white, pale pink or reddish flowers bloom in the clusters with cyme-like branches from June to September. The fruit is a purple capsule about 7 mm long.
