メキシコから中央アメリカに分布しています。サバンナから高地の雲霧林に生え、高さは１．８メートルになります。葉は大きな円形から広卵形で、縁は掌状に分裂し、軟毛が生えます。冬から早春にかけて、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。頭花には６個の舌状花があります。

キク科ロルダナ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Roldana petasitis (syn. Senecio petasitis)。英名は Velvet groundsel、Californian geranium。

The Velvet groundsel (Roldana petasitis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from Mexico to Central America. It grows in savannas to highland cloud forests and grows to 1.8 m tall. The leaves are large, round to broadly ovate with palmately divided margins and soft hairs. Yellow flower heads bloom from winter to early spring. The flower head has six ray florets.
