北アメリカの中部、アパラチア山脈からロッキー山脈の間に分布しています。大草原に生え、高さは９０〜１２０センチになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、緑色の小葉が７〜１１個つきます。５月から９月ごろ、直径５センチほどのピンク色から白色の花を咲かせます。果実は丸く、赤色に熟します。

バラ科バラ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Rosa arkansana。英名は Prairie rose、Wild prairie rose。

The Prairie rose (Rosa arkansana) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native to central North America, between the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. This shrub grows in prairie and can reach 90-120 cm in height. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with 7-11 medium green leaflets. The pink to white flowers around 5 cm across come in May to September. The fruits are round and ripen in red.
