	地中海沿岸地方が原産です。海に近い場所に育ち、淡い青色の露のような小さな花を咲かせることから、ラテン語で「ロスマリヌス Rosmarinus（海のしずく）」と呼ばれました。わが国へは江戸時代の終りに渡来しました。和名では「まんねんろう（迷迭香）」と呼ばれます。全体に芳香があり、枝や葉を香料に用いる代表的なハーブです。写真中７は、「マジョルカピンク（cv. Majorca Pink）」。中８は、「サンタバーバラ（cv. Santa Barbara）」。
	シソ科マンネンロウ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rosmarinus officinalis。英名は Rosemary。
	The Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to the coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea. This tree grows near coasts, and comes pale blue dew-like small flowers. Rosemary was called "Rosmarinus" in Latin. It came to Japan at the end of the Edo period. It is called "mannen-ro" in Japanese. It is aromatic throughout and is a typical herb whose branches and leaves are used for flavoring.
