The Father Hugo rose (Rosa hugonis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to central China, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan. This tree grows on sunny mountain edges and shrub belts and is about 2 m high. The tip of the branch hangs down like a bow, and fine thorns grow. Lemon yellow flowers with a diameter of 5 to 7 cm come in spring. The species is named after the discoverer, the Irish botanist, Father Hugh Scallan.
