ジャマイカ西部の固有種です。大きなヤシで、高さは２０メートルになります。幹は灰白色で、直径は２７〜４２センチあります。幹の上部は葉鞘に取り囲まれ、緑色の部分を形成し、長さは１．８メートルほどです。葉は長さ４メートルほどの羽状複葉です。花序から濃いクリーム色の雌花と雄花を咲かせます。果実は核果で、熟すと紫黒色になります。

ヤシ科ダイオウヤシ属の常緑高木で、学名は Roystonea princeps。英名は Morass royal palm、Morass cabbage palm。

The Morass royal palm (Roystonea princeps) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is endemic to western Jamaica. It is a large palm which reaches 20 m in height. The stems are gray-white and 27-42 cm in diameter. The upper part of the stem is encircled by leaf sheaths, forming a green portion, about 1.8 m long. The leaves are about 4 m long, pinnately compound. The inflorescences bear creamy yellow male and female flowers. The fruit are drupes and purplish-black when ripe.
