The Texas coneflower (Rudbeckia texana) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from eastern Texas to western Louisiana in the United States. It grows in moist grasslands, along railways and highways, and is 50-120 cm tall. The leaves are leathery, elliptic to lanceolate, covered with fine hairs and alternate. From May to November, the flower stalks extend to produce yellow head flowers. The flower head has a prominent dark brown, dome-shaped tubular flower in the middle, surrounded by yellow ray florets.
