アメリカの東南部、ノースカロライナ州からテキサス州に分布しています。高さは４０センチほどになり、葉は卵状長楕円形で対生します。８月から９月ごろ、茎頂に紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠の咽部は薄紫色で、先端は５中裂します。

キツネノマゴ科ルイラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Ruellia caroliniensis ssp. ciliosa。英名は Carolina wild petunia。

The Carolina wild petunia (Ruellia caroliniensis ssp. ciliosa) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the southeast United States, from North Carolina west to Texas. This herb can reach about 40 cm in height. Leaves are ovate-oblong and opposite. Purple flowers come on tip of stems from August to September. Corolla has 5-lobes with lavender throat.
