ユーラシア大陸が原産です。わが国でも紀伊半島から四国・九州、琉球諸島などに帰化しています。道ばたや湿り気のある砂地に生え、高さは１０〜２０センチになります。葉は卵形で対生します。３月から５月ごろ、葉腋から花柄を伸ばし、瑠璃色の花を咲かせます。花は日差しがあるときだけ開花します。

サクラソウ科ルリハコベ属の一年草で、学名は Anagallis arvensis。英名は Blue pimpernel。

The Blue pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is an annual herb that is native to the Eurasian Continent. It is also naturalized in Japan; the Kii Peninsula of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands. This herb grows in roadsides or wettish sandy soils and can reach 10-20 cm in height. The leaves are ovate and opposite. The peduncles are borne on the axiles, and the lazuline flowers bloom from March to May. They open only during sunlight.
