北アメリカの南西部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の湿り気のある草地や川岸に生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。根生葉は長楕円形で半多肉質、大きくて長さは４５センチ以上あります。また葉には目立つ葉脈があり、側脈は主脈に対して直角に伸びています。７月から８月ごろ、密な円錐花序に花を咲かせます。

タデ科ギシギシ属の多年草で、学名は Rumex orthoneurus。英名は Chiricahua dock。

The Chiricahua dock (Rumex orthoneurus) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the southwestern part of North America. This herb grows in mid- to high-elevation wet meadows and streambanks, and it can reach 1-2 m in height. The basal leaves are oblong, semi-succulent and large, up to 45 cm long. They have distinguish veining with secondary veins extending perpendicular to the midvein. The flowers bloom in a dense panicle from July to August.
