メキシコの北中部からオアハカ州に分布しています。潅木状になり、青緑色で、高さは４．５メートルほどになります。茎節は直径７〜１０センチほどで、５稜があります。３月ごろ、白っぽい花を咲かせ、やがてたいへん甘い濃赤色の果実になります。写真中４・中５は、植物の成長点が異常によってなくなり、成長点が帯状につながって成長する綴化（帯化）種。

サボテン科ミルティロカクツス属の柱サボテンで、学名は Myrtillocactus geometrizans。英名は Blue candle、Whortleberry cactus。

The Blue candle (Myrtillocactus geometrizans) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is native to northern-central Mexico to Oaxaca. This cactus is shrubby, bluish-green and can reach 4.5 m in height. The stems are 7-10 cm in diameter with five ribs. The whitish flowers come in March and turn in very sweet, dark red fruits. The 5th and 6th photos show a cristate (crested) species in which the growth points of the plant disappear due to an abnormality and the growth points are connected in a band.
