セイロンべんけい (セイロン弁慶)

南アフリカが原産ですが、今では熱帯地方に広く帰化しています。わが国でも小笠原諸島や南西諸島で見ることができます。多肉植物で高さは１〜２メートルになります。葉を切り取って表向きにしておくと、葉脈の端から新しい芽が伸びます。冬から春にかけて、鐘形の花を咲かせます。別名で「とうろうそう（灯籠草）」とも呼ばれます。 |

ベンケイソウ科リュウキュウベンケイ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Kalanchoe pinnata。英名は Life plant、Air plant。 |

The Life plant (Kalanchoe pinnata) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South Africa. Nowadays it is widely naturalized in all tropical regions of the world. It can be found also in Japan; the Ogasawara Islands and the Ryukyu Islands. This herb is succulent and can reach 1-2 m in height. The bell-shaped flowers bloom from winter to spring. The young shoots grow at the terminal veins of the cutted leaf. |
