スリランカが原産です。高さは１０〜１５メートルになります。葉は卵状楕円形で光沢があり、３脈が目立ちます。花は緑がかっていて芳香を発し、円錐花序に咲きます。果実は紫色の核果です。その内皮はシナモンを作るために使われます。スリランカは、世界のシナモン供給量の８０〜９０パーセントを生産しています。

クスノキ科ニッケイ属の常緑高木で、学名は Cinnamomum verum。英名は Cinnamon tree、Ceylon cinnamon tree。

The Cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum verum) belongs to Lauraceae (the Laurel family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to Sri Lanka. This tree are 10-15 m tall. The leaves are ovate-oblong, glossy and with prominent three veins. The flowers are greenish and emit an aromatic odor, and bloom in panicles. The fruits are purple drupes. Its inner bark is used to make cinnamon. Sri Lanka still produces 80-90 % of the world's supply of Cinammon tree.
