The African cyclamen (Cyclamen africanum) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in northern Africa, from northern Algeria to Morocco and Tunisia. It grows in the mountains and lowlands of the Mediterranean climate, and is 12 to 15 cm tall. The leaves are cordate to shallowly lobed, and are green or grayish green with serrated edges. The underside is green, but can also be purple. It produces rose pink or purple flowers from September to November. The petals of the corolla are recurved.
