中央アメリカのパナマから南アメリカ北部のコロンビア、ベネズエラ、ギアナに分布しています。樹木の幹などの着生します。茎は細長い紡錘形で、長楕円形の葉がつきます。夏から初秋にかけて花茎をだし、直径１２〜１８センチの淡い黄緑色の花を咲かせます。雄花と雌花はほとんど同形です。属名は「白鳥の首（kyknos + aches）」で、蕊柱（Column）のかたちに因みます。

The Swan neck orchid (Cycnoches chlorochilon) belongs to Orcidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a deciduous perennial herb that is distributed from Panama in Central America to Colombia, Venezuela and Guiana in northern South America. It is an epiphyte and grows on tree trunks. The stem is elongated spindle-shaped with oblong leaves. From summer to early autumn, the flower stalks come out and the pale yellow-green flowers with a diameter of 12 to 18 cm bloom. Male and female flowers are almost identical in shape. The genus name Cycnoches is the "swan's neck" (kyknos + aches) and is associated with the shape of the "column".
