シクノチェス属は、中央アメリカから南アメリカに１２種があります。本種は南アメリカの北部に分布しています。樹木の幹などの着生します。茎は細長い紡錘形で、長楕円形の葉がつきます。夏から初秋にかけて花茎をだし、直径１２〜１８センチの茶褐色の花を咲かせます。雄花と雌花はほとんど同形です。

There are 12 species of the Cycnoches genus from Central America to South America. The Swan neck orchid (Cycnoches loddigesii) is distributed in the northern part of South America. It is an epiphyte and grows on tree trunks. The stem is elongated spindle-shaped with oblong leaves. From summer to early fall, the flower stalks come out and brown flowers with a diameter of 12 to 18 cm bloom. Male and female flowers are almost identical in shape.
