ポルトガル沿岸のマデイラ諸島が原産です。海岸近くに生え、高さは１．５メートルほどになります。茎はよく分枝して、葉は鮮緑色、掌状に５裂します。夏、枝先の花序に、椀形の明るい赤紫色の花を咲かせます。

フウロソウ科フウロソウ属の二年草で、学名は Geranium maderense。英名は Madeira cranesbill。

The Madeira cranesbill (Geranium maderense) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a biennial herb that is native to the Madeira Islands on the Portuguese coast. This herb grows in the coastal areas and can reach about 1.5 m in height. The stem is much branched, the leaves are bright green and divided into five lobes palmately. The flowers are saucer-shaped, bright purple-pink and come in the clusters of branching heads in summer.
