ヨーロッパから南西シベリア、コーカサス地方に分布しています。標高１５００メートルまでの湿った草原に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は５〜７個のくさび形の裂片に分かれています。６月から８月ごろ、茎頂に淡紫色または赤みを帯びた紫色の花を咲かせます。花の直径は２０〜３０ミリで、花弁には切れ込みがないか、わずかにある程度です。果柄は下向きに曲がっています。

フウロソウ科フウロソウ属の多年草で、学名は Geranium palustre。英名は Marsh cranesbill。

The Marsh cranesbill (Geranium palustre) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Europe to southwestern Siberia and the Caucasus region. It grows in moist grasslands at elevations up to 1500 m and reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm. The leaves are divided into 5 to 7 wedge-shaped lobes. From around June to August, it produces pale purple or reddish-purple flowers at the tips of its stems. The flowers are 20-30 mm in diameter, and the petals are either unnotched or only slightly notched. The fruit stalks bent down.
