「コーンミント（Mentha arvensis）」と「スペアミント（Mentha spicata）」との交雑種です。高さは４５〜６０センチになります。葉は小さめの楕円形で、淡い緑色をしています。いくつかの斑入りの品種もあります。全草に「しょうが」を思わせるような強いミントの香りがあります。夏に、葉腋のまわりに輪生状の花序をだし、淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。

The Ginger mint (Mentha x gracilis) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is a hybrid between corn mint (Mentha arvensis) and spearmint (Mentha spicata). This herb can reach 45-60 cm in height. The leaves are smallish elliptic and light green. There are some variegated forms. The whole plant has a strong minty aroma with a hint of ginger. It is borne whorled clusters along the axils and blooms pale purple flowers in summer.
