ブラジル南部が原産です。丘陵地帯に生え、高さは１０メートルほどになります。熱帯地域や亜熱帯地域に広く栽培される果樹です。幹に直接、白い花が咲き、長い雄しべが目立ちます。ほんのりと甘い香りがします。濃褐紫色の巨峰のような果実がなり、味も似ているそうです。和名では「きぶどう（木葡萄）」と呼ばれます。

フトモモ科ミルキアリア属の常緑小高木で、学名は Myrciaria cauliflora。英名は Jaboticaba。

The Jaboticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is native to southern Brazil. This tree grows in hillsides and it can reach about 10 m in height. And this fruit tree is cultivated in tropical and semi-tropical areas. Fragrant white flowers come on the stems with distinct long stamens. Fruits are dark brownish purple, grape-like shape and taste.
