ブラジルからアルゼンチンに分布しています。成長が早く、幹は直立して高さは１５メートルほどになります。葉は灰緑色の単羽状複葉で、アーチ状になります。雌雄同株で、花は黄色い単性花です。夏から初冬にかけて、「なつめやし（棗椰子）」に似た３センチほどの果実が実ります。生食もできるそうです。

ヤシ科アレカストルム属の常緑高木で、学名は Arecastrum romanzoffianum。英名は Queen palm。

The queen palm (Arecastrum romanzoffianum) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from Brazil to Argentina. It grows fast and the trunk is upright, about 15 m tall. The leaves are gray-green, unipennate compound, and arched. It is monoecious, and the flower are yellow unisexual. The fruits similar to "Date palm" (Phoenix dactylifera) grow about 3 cm from summer to early winter. They can eat raw food.
