わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国東部、ロシア東部に分布しています。低山帯の湿り気のある林内に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は単羽状で披針形、２０〜３５対の羽片がつきます。最下羽片が十字状に３岐するのが特徴です。

オシダ科イノデ属の夏緑性シダ類で、学名は Polystichum tripteron。英名は Trifid holly fern。

The Trifid holly fern (Polystichum tripteron) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is a summer-green fern that is native all over Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, eastern China and eastern Russia. This fern grows in wet forests on low mountains, and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are unipennate and lanceolate with 20-35 pairs of pinnae. It is difined by the cruciate, trifurcated basal pinnae.
