わが国の各地に分布しています。低山から山地の森林に生え、高さは１２０センチほどになります。葉柄には淡い茶色の鱗片が密生します。葉身は２回羽状複葉で、長楕円状披針形をしています。ソーラス（胞子嚢群）は中肋と辺縁のあいだにつき、包膜は全縁です。

オシダ科イノデ属の夏緑性シダ植物で、学名は Polystichum retroso-paleaceum。英名はありません。

"Sakage-inode" (Polystichum retroso-paleaceum) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is a summer-green fern that is native all over Japan. This fern grows in forests of low mountain to mountain, and it can reach about 120 cm in height. The petioles are covered thickly with pale brown scales. The leaf blades are bipinnate compound and oblong-lanceolate. The sori are arranged between midrib and margin, and the indusia are entire.
