The "Sakuraso-modoki" (Primula matthioli ssp. sachalinensis) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hokkaido in Japan to the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, and the Far East of Russia. It grows in damp grasslands, marshes, and along mountain streams. It grows to a height of 10 to 30 cm. The leaves are basal, kidney-shaped, palmate, 9 to 13-lobed, and sparsely covered with soft hairs. The leaf stalks are densely covered with spreading hairs. From June to July, 3 to 8 flowers bloom slightly downward at the tips of the branches. The corolla is reddish purple, deeply divided into five lobes, and the tips of the lobes are pointed. It was previously classified as the genus Cortusa. It is classified as Endangered (EN) on the Ministry of the Environment's Red List.
