南アフリカのケープ地方の南西部にだけ分布しています。乾燥した地域の河床や岩の間の砂地など、水分があるところに生え、高さは２メートルほどになります。茎には４稜があり、よく分枝します。淡い緑色の葉にはわずかに毛が生え、対生します。７月から１０月ごろまで、明るい淡青色の花を咲かせ続けます。

シソ科アキギリ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Salvia chamelaeagnea。英名は Rough blue sage。

The Rough blue sage (Salvia chamelaeagnea) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed only in the southwestern part of the Cape region of South Africa. This herb grows in moist areas such as riverbeds in dry areas and sandy areas between rocks, and can reach up to 2 m in height. The stem has 4 ridges and branches well. The pale green leaves are slightly hairy and opposite. The bright pale blue flowers continue to bloom from July to October.
