メキシコ中部の明るい林縁などに生えるメキシカーナ種（Salvia mexicana）の園芸品種です。高さは１〜１．５メートルになり、長い葉柄のある卵形の葉が対生します。９月から１１月ごろ、長い穂状花序をだし、濃い紫色の唇形花を咲かせます。淡いライムイエローの萼片が特徴です。

シソ科アキギリ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Salvia mexicana cv. Limelight。英名は Mexican sage 'Limelight'。

The Mexican sage 'Limelight' (Salvia mexicana cv. Limelight) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a caltivar of Mexican sage (Salvia mexicana), which grows naturally in sunny forest edges of central Mexico. This shrub can reach 1-1.5 m in height. The leaves are ovate opposite with long petioles. The deep purple labiate flowers bloom in the long spikes from September to November. It is defined by lime-yellow calyx lobes.
